To honor Margaret Cowgill, Trainer - Instructor, who passed away suddenly on April 7, 08, from a brain aneurysm, The Margaret Ruth Cowgill Memorial Fund has now been set up.   Donations may be made to 5110 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, Missouri, 64129, Attention"  Anna Willis.  As the love of Margaret's life was the American Saddlebred, some of the funds will support the rescue society for unwanted saddlebreds.  In addition, a yearly sponsorship in Margaret's name will be given to UPHA Chapter Five annual horse show.  This was sponsored for the first time in April 2008.  It has also been proposed that a class at the American Royal will be named and sponsored in her honor.

We at R & R Stables, would like you to know that she had a wonderful day on April 7, doing what she loved the most.  She had just taken delivery of a new car and then spent the afternoon with us at the barn, driving both of her horses, that she so loved ,for owners, Kathy and Kiley Lawrence and Becky Yockey outside in the field, enjoying the sunshine. She then pampered and groomed both horses, spoiling them in the stall as she always does.

Robert and I and Sarah were privileged to be with her on her last day.

Our industry has just lost a woman of great integrity, one of the most kind and the strongest woman I know.  We are so grateful that Margaret came into our lives, enriching us all with her zest and spirit for life and her great love for all the horses.  She will be greatly missed by us all at R & R Stables.
Margaret Cowgill
joined the R & R Team in 2006.   She started out teaching as a teen-ager at her mother's summer school of horsemanship in north Missouri--where students would come in from all over the country and Canada, live several weeks on the farm and learn horsemanship. She holds an AA degree from Stephens College in Columbia where she was very active in the riding program--this department was headed and advanced to a national reputation by her mother, Annie Lawson Cowgill, when she was there for twelve years. Margaret then went on to get a BA degree from the University of Missouri.  Margaret has put many successful horses and riders in the show ring in all divisions and showed a five-gaited horse herself called The Beneficiary. This pair won very competitive five-gaited classes at large shows including The American Royal, St. Louis National Charity, Midwest Charity in Springfield, Ill. and the Tulsa Charity. Upon the death of her husband,  Margaret returned to teaching - she loved working with all age groups and her real contentment was in seeing a horse and rider grow and improve together.

Sadly,

Robert, Rachalle and Natalie Stezovsky

Robert and Rachalle would like to welcome Becky Yockey and Kathy, Tom and Kiley Lawrence to the R & R team!  We made a promise to Margaret to take care of you and with Margaret in our hearts we shall make her proud.

Congratulations to Becky Yockey and Out Do Me on a fantastic ride (for Margaret) at the MHSA Kick-Off Show in Columbia, MO placing first in the Novice Show Pleasure and also for your succes in aother first place win at the recent Chapter 5 show  - Becky, Margaret would be so happy and proud of you, you truly deserved this success that you and Margaret worked so hard for (and Annie of course)

Becky would like to thank Margaret for all her expertise ("and I miss you") - "also thanks to Robert and Rachalle for helping pick up the pieces over the traumatic past few weeks and a special thank you to "Annie" for giving me these truly memorable shows".

Quote of the Day

"I have seen flowers come in stony places
And kind things done by men with ugly faces
And the gold cup won by the worst horse at the races,
So I trust too."

John Masefield
