RIDING LESSONS

 Lessons by appointment

Robert06lge.jpg (1036378 bytes)The Stezovsky's didn't set out to build the area's largest instruction program.  Instead, they committed to giving every student who walk through their doors, high quality, highly personal lessons.  From the first steps in the saddle to first place in the ring, the R & R program never loses sight of that commitment.

"Our goal is to run the very best riding lesson program possible, with world class instructors"

Rachalle Stezovsky BHSI,  our Director of Riding,  has over twenty years of experience teaching riders of all ages, here in the U.S.A. and also in England and Canada.  Rachalle works closely with all her students, advancing them, with an eye for detail, to help them to reach their full potential. Rachalle’s students have won many National, International and Equitation awards, as well as at the World's Championship. Robert, with his expertise at working with all the horses, coaches alongside Rachalle, ensuring that the close relationship required between horse and rider will bring success.

Sarah Krueger  In the spring of 2002, Sarah pursued a bachelor of science, majoring in Equestrian Science, at William Woods University (class of 2004).  She also has a AA degree from Longview Community College . Sarah is well qualified in all aspects of horsemanship and riding, but her specialty is working with young beginner riders.  She has instructed children who had never seen a horse before and took them to first place ribbons in Academy shows.  Her philosophy is to teach a rider to ride correctly and safely, while having fun, so that student may then go on to achieve his/her goals with a horse.

We provide a variety of excellent lesson horses; riding different horses helps you to learn much more! Each horse will teach you new skills. We also provide top quality tack and equipment.  We have a 9-level riding program in place for our students, with recognition certificates awarded as each level is passed.

No prior experience is necessary. We will work with people who have never sat on a horse before, all the way up to those who have won World Championships! We work with students of all ages, from age 4 to adults. R & R is the place to learn to ride!

We teach Saddle Seat riding, with an emphasis on safety, effective horsemanship, ringmanship and showmanship.

All students begin with at least one private lesson, so that we can evaluate your skill level and place you in an appropriate group. New riders will need to take private lessons until they are safe enough for the instructor to divide her attention- generally a minimum of 10 lessons, depending on age and physical strength and coordination. Younger riders will require more privates before they are safe in a group setting. Safety is our primary concern! We encourage our serious students to take a minimum 2 lessons per week. Riding twice a week speeds up your progress more than double! The shorter interval between lessons makes a very big difference. Private and group lessons both have their own advantages, so to do one of each is very helpful.

Please follow our link for photos and places to buy the appropriate  clothing, boots and helmets or ask us for other outlets.

We have a 24 hour lesson cancellation.  We make every effort to contact students during extreme weather conditions and rebook you at a suitable time.  We offer extra time each month for make-up lessons.

Benefits of Horse Riding

bullet

Physical - The three-dimensional motion of the horse provides the rider hip and back actions that simulate natural walking.  Riding relaxes and strengthens muscles and improves body tone, posture, balance, joint mobility, and coordination.

bullet

Emotional - Contact with horses and horsemanship training provides a non-competitive setting for learning new abilities, self-discipline, and improved concentration building self-confidence.

bullet

Social - Horseback riding nurtures a positive self-image.  Riders may, for the first time in their lives, experience some independence and sense of being part of the team.

Psychological Benefits of Horse Riding

bulletGeneral sense of well-being.
Exercise in the fresh air of a ranch, away from hospitals, doctors office, therapy rooms, or home help to promote a sense of well-being.
bulletImproved self-confidence
The ability to control an animal much larger and stronger than oneself is a great confidence builder. Participating in events such as shows and play days add to the sense of achievement. By being able to master a skill considered difficult by most of the population, the rider acquires a great sense of accomplishment.
bulletIncreased interest in the outside world.
Riding increases interest in what is happening around the rider, as the rider explores the world from the back of a horse. Even exercising becomes interesting when done on horseback.
bulletIncreased interest in one's own life.
The excitement of riding and the experiences involved stimulate the rider, encouraging the rider to communicate about it.
bulletImproved risk-taking abilities.
Riding is a risk sport. The rider learns to master fears though the act of staying on the horse, as well as attempting new skills and positions on the horse.
bulletDevelopment of patience.
Since the horse has a mind of it's own, the rider learns patience as he or she attempts to perform skills on the horse when the horse is not cooperating. Repetition of basic riding principles also helps to develop patience.
bulletEmotional control and self-discipline.
The rider quickly learns that an out-of-control rider means an out-of-control horse. Shouting, crying, and emotional outbursts upset the horse, which in turn frightens the rider. Riders learn to control these emotions and appropriately express them.
bulletExpansion of the focus of control.
The rider begins to view him/herself as having control over his/her world as control over a powerful animal increases.

SHOWING

If you would like to show horses, R & R is the place for you! We show horses at every level, from the starter-Academy shows to the World Championship horse show in Kentucky. Our goal is to take top-notch horses to the best shows, and to see you succeed! Showing is fun. It is an opportunity to stretch yourself. It is a fun time with friends. It is a tool for selling horses. It is a chance to see what you have inside. Showing is a blast.

Everyone can show, from small children to adults. There is a horse and a division for everyone. Let us help you to set your goals and to chase your dreams.

Academy Shows

The Academy program is a place to try out showing, to get your feet wet and learn the elementary showing skills. When you show in Academy, you do not need a full riding suit, just Kentucky jodhpurs, riding boots, and a dress shirt, tie and vest. We will help you find proper clothing, whether brand new or consignment items.  When you show in Academy, you show our lesson horses that you have been riding and practicing on. We ship the horses to the show, groom and prepare the horse, and coach you through your events. You will generally show in 2 events at a show, giving you a chance to improve your performance the second time. Our coaching style is encouraging and motivational, so that riders always have a positive experience. We stress always having a personal best, with feedback both on what you did well, and what areas we will work on improving.

The Academy Program includes the Winter Tournaments, a series of shows from December to March, held in the local area, as well as Academy classes at many of the summer shows. When you are ready to move out of the Academy Division, we can help you with competing at local and national level horse shows.  We compete regularly from throughout the Midwest to the World's Championship held every year at Louisville, Kentucky.
